A native Baltimorean, Ted left Baltimore at the age of 17 to enlist into the military. Due to his weight and height he was only eligible to go into the Navy. He remained in the Navy for 3 years. While in the Navy, his duties were as a Damage Controller. After 3 years was up he discharged from the Navy and because of weight gain and height growth he was able to enlist into the U.S. Army Reserve.
In 1960, he was called for active duty, because of the Berlin Wall Crisis. He remained on active duty and was deployed to Viet Nam in 1967 and 1968. After returning to the United States, he was a Recruiter for 15 years, winning many awards/certificates for his numbers of recruits into the U.S. Army. He was stationed in N.Y.C., which covered Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx. In addition, in recruiting in Westchester County, NY. During his Army career he earned his bachelor’s Degree and has earned 12 credits towards his master’s from Columbus College. He retired from the U.S. Army in March 1980.
After being discharged from his military obligations, he was hired at a Lincoln Mercury Dealership in the NY/NJ area as a Car Sales Associate, he was promoted and trained as a Finance Manager and became a Used Car Manager. Ted was in the car Industry for 15 years and retired in 2000. Ted declares himself a New Yorker, due to his many years of residency in New York.
Ted is a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Fraternal Organization. He is a Past Master of Trinity Lodge #51, Located in Queens, NY. He was the youngest Worshipful Master of his lodge (36) at that time. He joined Trinity Chapter #32 the Eastern Star and became a Past Patron, a Past Deputy Grand Patron and a Grand Trustee (9 years) of the Eureka Grand Chapter of the State of NY. Ted is a member of Medina Temple #19, Oasis of New York, Desert of NY. He became an Illustrious Potentate in the year 2000.
Ted returned to his home state in 2001, and became active as an Associate Member of Jerusalem Temple #4 of Baltimore, MD. He was elected as the President of the Past Potentate Council, which he held for 5 years. Ted was appointed in 2010 as Deputy Imperial Director of the Military/Veterans Affairs Department of the Imperial Council.
Ted joined the DAV, Chapter #13 located in Glen Burnie, MD in 2005. He volunteers to become a Certified Service Officer (CSO) and train to assist the disabled Veterans with their claims for benefits.
He was appointed as a Department Service Officer (DSO), which covers all Disabled Veterans in the State Maryland. He currently holds the title of DAV Chapter Commander from 2015-2016. Chapter #13 of Glen Burnie, during his reign proudly holds the records for the highest number of Veterans claims processed in the State of Maryland. Chapter #13 was #1 by raising more funds from their Forget-Me- Not Drive, Golden Corral and Membership drive.
Ted is married to Francina and combined they have 7 children, 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
